Bad: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Rated: M for Mature
This might look like a patriotic game that will teach the kids American values, but it has an M-rating for a reason. Near-realistic combat that includes disturbing scenes where attack dogs chew out your buddy's throats put this war game over the top.

Good: Super Mario Galaxy
Rated: E for Everyone
Twenty years later, Nintendo mascot Mario's still saving the princess. This time he takes off across the galaxy, battling enemies while maneuvering through some of the most brilliant level design in recent history, which requires dexterous use of the motion-sensing Wii remote. It's cute, it's fun, and it's the perfect game for players of all ages.

Bad: Assassin's Creed
Rated: M for Mature
This stealthy game centers on an assassin who's set out to choke, stab and otherwise knock off nine semi-historical figures from the Crusades. It's a fictional story based on a real-life topicthat's not exactly the stuff of bedtime stories.

Good: Forza Motorsport 2
Rated: E for Everyone
Kids tired of playing cartoony games can get a dose of realism behind the steering wheel of one of 300 customizable cars in this circuit racing game. One note of warning: the game canbe played online -- with voice chat -- over Xbox Live, so be sure to use the gaming system's parental controls to protect your little speed racer from inappropriate comments.

Bad: Mass Effect
Rated: M for Mature
While this is a great experience for adults, this sci-fi role-playing game, with Hollywood-level graphics and and voice acting includes mature themes not appropriate for the youngsters, such aslesbian sex, political assassinations, monsters and genocide.

Good: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Rated: M for Mature
Spider-Man, Captain America, the X-Men and other Marvel mainstays team up to fight against Colossus and his minions in this T-rated action game. Bad: Halo 3
Source: Microsoft
Rated: M for Mature
Master Chief might be the savior of the universe, but the game's helmeted hero spills lots of blood along the way. It's not the most violent of the 'M' rated games, but there's still enough to causeconcern for protective parents. - 7 Games Kids Should Avoid
Good: Guitar Hero III
Rated: T for Teen
Though parents might blanch some of the song lyrics, this guitar simulation game is as close as your kids can get to rock stardom without exposure to the shadier sides of the music biz.Read our Guitar Hero III Review

Bad: Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
Rated: M for Mature
Two ex-cons rob banks, shooting up police officers and more in one of the bloodiest action games this year. Definitely not for kids, and even adults might feel a little dirty after playing it.
