just reading your comments about people who get 100 words.  we only get 120 seconds so thats pretty quick typing.  Very hard to believe. also why do some people never have a bad game.  I don't care how good they are everyone hits a wall sometimes.  Me more than most!

try a new room to play in so you have a chance to get on top a lot in deep thought sometimes and nice to play with with

I can stereotype. I can stereotype faster than anybody. But I can't type. I don't type the words on WordChuck. I swipe with the mouse. I don't have a smart phone, so Siri does not help me.

I've lost contact with the other players, why?

hi one. i just left a game where "one of those people" entered with 109 pts. that drives me crazy! she maintains she's a good speller. aren't we all?  but spelling has nothing to do with this game. there's got to be a program that  enables some  players to get  outrageously high scores. anything with "siri?" speaking the words would go twice as fast as trying to move sticky tiles.

what is the best room to play in

Greetings Wordchuckers.  I discovered this thread by accident but glad I did.  I recognize a lot of the member names in this topic - and if yall recognize mine - you know I never "chat".  Nothing personal.  It distracts me.  This is a game site - so I play games.  Anyway - I'd like to comment about people using programs.  I've often wondered if that was the case.  I know what you mean about the same few getting 100 words or 600 points.  When I started playing - I often placed at the bottom.  Gradually I learned and improved.  But I do not use a program.  I, like you, think that is cheating and absolutely no fun what so ever.  My personal strategy is just to get as many words as I can find.  I don't look for patterns, although I should.  I don't even start with high point value letters first, which is a bad habit and I'm trying to break that.  I just go.  Mostly three and four letter words.  So if any of yall see me in there, you can rest assured ONELAUGH is not using a program.

Since I do not chat - I'll take this opportunity to say hi to some familiar names below... Mzrae, BeverleyCanada1, lysquared, ljhanaway, and PROSE221b.  I see yall quite often in Wordchuck.

Tell everybody else that plays that ONELAUGH says "howdy".

Dang it, I forgot to add something.  I started out playing thru AOL, which has it's own browser.  Then there became a problem - it kept disconnecting.  I tried Chrome but there were problems with that as well.  Recently, I switched to Mozilla Firefox.  No problems and it's fast.  For others that encounter problems with this site - I'd suggest using Mozilla as your browser.  You should see an increase in your scores.

I've asked this before and never get an answer.  Why doesn't the chat room directory show the number of players in the room?  Other games on this web site show the number of players in rooms.

Why don't the room show the number of players?  The "Chuck" room shows 1 player and there are about 20.  What's up?

Every time I try to play lately, there is no one else playing.  This used to be a fairly popular game.  What happened?

My stats go for months without changing and then sometimes in one day they will change several times.  I'm wondering if they only update them periodically.

For 2 days, even though I am playing, my score is not increasing.  My screen-name shows in the list of players, but my scores do not show.  There is nothing showing in the chat area.  Doesn't tell me what place I earned.  Doesn't tell me what points I have been awarded.  Doesn't show any name but mine on the final score screen.  I'm totally frustrated!!!!

Every time I try to access, shows there is no one playing (?)..and the opening screen doesn't change. I've played for 6 months and there was always lots of players..whats up?

This site runs terrible. The timer clicks down to zero and the new board drops way after to catch you off guard. Everyone else is chatting about the game before I even know where I've finished.

When we see these people -- lets not quit.  How about going to a different room, and let them and the others who are so impresssed with them play on.  I've tried going to Deep Thought several times, but there's usually only 2 or 3 players.  I'm not that good but I usually beat them consistently.  That's no fun for me or them, so then I quit.  Gonna go play poker now.  I'm done for today. lol

Well some of use do not use programs and can play these games well! Many do not know that you can GRAB A LETTER from the WOODCHUCK on the left hand side and drop it on the grid anywhere you want during the game. This helps out immensely!!  Some of us have been playing for a long time and can type faster then using the mouse or visa versa. And yes, we can get good scores too!  We know the words and can work fast as this is a great brain trainer and we like to see our gang of friends on the chat.  So what programs you are talking about I have no idea and I am a computer tech from the government.  Give some of us good players some credit, okay.

@zelgat Amen Zel -- I agree 100% with you.  Have commented on this before.  Guess the game guru's don't care, or have no way to figure out who has a program.  hahaha.

ljhanaway
ljhanaway

@zelgat I agree zelgat.  There are several that play in the room I do and once they enter, no one else has a chance, game after game they are in first place, sometimes with not only an incredible number of words but also the highest score.  I can see if someone mainly finds three and four letter words how they can accrue a good number but those are not high scoring words for the most part.  For someone to be that fast a typist and also find the most words AND the highest scoring ones consistently, game after game, they would have to have help.  Of course, I think they are cheating themselves because they've eliminated any challenge and, to me, that the most important aspect of the game.  At the same time, it's not fair to the rest of us who are relying on our own fingers for speed and our own minds to find words.

@WELDMANM Exit the game (top right corner) and scroll down to the listing of rooms.  At most times all show no players, sometimes they will show one player.  Click on room of choice and wait for the next game to begin and it will then show the players in that room.

PROSE221b
PROSE221b

@Coinsaplenty The longer and better you play, and the better you get at placing the extra letter, the more you come to realize that the higher scores are quite possible to reach WITHOUT cheating.  Have fun all.

ljhanaway

@kortenjones Forgot to mention when I first click on Wordchuck from my favorites, it shows I'm in "Chuck" but there are no other players.  I have to exit and then click on Chuck to get to the players.

ljhanaway

@kortenjones There is almost always someone in "Chuck" but it doesn't show when you pick the rooms.  Just click on Chuck and wait for it to load fully and the names of the players will start filling in.

@Cindi3 try the Chuck room! You have to just try and go to the regular ones or check each one...I know can be troublesome, but the Chuck Room is a normal one always running

@Mzrae What are these "programs"?  I have often felt somebody had to be cheating but I could never figure out how one would do that.  Why bother playing if you are just going to cheat?  No satisfaction in that.

CinBear13
CinBear13

@BeverleyCanada  I agree..somewhat. BUT the fastest typist I ever knew could only do 85 words per minute...and she wasn't guessing them. Kinda hard to believe anyone can type 90 wpm in a word guessing game....consistently

ljhanaway
ljhanaway

@BeverleyCanada I don't know that anyone playing here is using programs but I know some on other sites are definitely using them.  I do question those that type 100 words or more on this site as often the program is malfunctioning, the letters sticking, etc.  There are one or two who always win when they play, never have an off day.  It's not fun when they play as the fun, to me, is in the challenge, more so than winning.  My average is almost always in the top ten except when these people are playing, then I'll fall to eleventh, sometimes lower.  I look at my number of words and score, sometimes 500+ and do question how these people end up with scores so much higher than anyone else.

Mzrae
Mzrae

@BeverleyCanada I agree with scrabbly.  I'm not talking about you as I've never played with you.  But...there are several players in here who definitely ARE using programs.  I have nothing but respect for people who obviously play well and win.  However, when you see the same 2 or 3 people consistently hundreds of points over everyone else, something's fishy.  And...there definitely are programs people use for these games -- why I don't know -- doesn't seem like it would be fun to me.  I play another word game on a different web site where they make you sign in with the "funny" letters, and they say they are doing this to make sure you aren't playing with a robot-run program.

scrabblywords
scrabblywords

@BeverleyCanada  I am well aware of the extra letters that can be switched and the option to rotate the grid, but when all the players come up with 40 some words or less in a game and one player comes up with 90 or more, this is certainly questionable!   Perhaps you have not played against some of the people we are speaking about.   And, just because you have not heard of the programs that will play the game for you or the phone apps that assist you in playing, does not mean they don't exist~ as you stated in your other post.

PROSE221b
PROSE221b

@Coinsaplenty LOL  This is what I meant to say:  I used to feel the way you do, but the longer and better you play, and the better you get at placing the extra letter, the more you come to realize that the higher scores ARE quite possible to attain WITHOUT using a program/cheating.  AND you have to take in to account that some of these players are on here every day for hours and hours.  Have fun all, see you in Chuck.

scrabblywords
scrabblywords

@trickpony2p @Mzrae Well, trickp, if you want to know more about these "programs," you would have to ask someone that uses them!  LOL!   Ya know, like the players that are ALWAYS in first place.  (Oh sure, once in a great while they will lose so it looks like they are not using these "programs." )  I explained before that these people have fragile egos and they want to "appear smart" to others.  Yes, they do fool some people, but NOT all of us.

@Cindi3 Correctly in nano seconds...really???  Lets pick 1 or 2 rooms for players who want to have fun properly!!!   Easy peasy and deep thought anyone?

ljhanaway

@Mzrae @BeverleyCanada I have played with Beverley and generally, as I recall, she averages mid point on the grid, which is where I normally am also.  I never though she used a program but, as you say, there are some that consistently score way above the other players.  I think most of us have off days, days where our fingers don't work as fast or our minds don't work as fast, but these few players never seem to have an off day.  I do find this suspicious.
